Archaeological & Historical Society - DAS has a core committee

many interested and supportive members. The Society holds talks
during the winter and excursions during the summer months. |

of about 250 members. It aims to promote interest in archaeology,
both in the local area and further afield, through lectures, excursions,

Archaeological Society - Based at Sheffield University, the
Hunter Archaeological Society was founded in 1912 to study and
report on the archaeology, history and architecture of South Yorkshire
and North Derbyshire in recognition of the work of Joseph Hunter
in researching and recording the history of the region. The Society
holds talks and visits to excavations and sites of interest, as
well as publishing papers in its Transactions. |

(roughly the area covered by the ancient Ripon Liberty). The Society

Historical Society - The Saddleworth Historical Society aims
to document the history of Saddleworth, to promote an interest
in the area's past, and to facilitate research relating to its
history. The Society organises lectures and events and publishes

Vernacular Buildings Study Group - The YVBSG holds training
seminars on building recording, tours and field recording, and
an annual day-school and conference. Over the years the group
has produced reports on vernacular buildings throughout Yorkshire. |
