The Archives
Archive collections
The Archives of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society contain material deposited with or donated to the Society.
Our collections include estate papers, family archives, personal archives
including notes of archaeologists, historians and antiquaries, maps, plans,
pedigrees, deeds, wills, and manorial court rolls.
The archives also hold a number of transcripts of parish registers and
monumental inscriptions for many places in Yorkshire

Highlights of the collection include the Thoresby manuscripts, papers of
antiquary and collector Bradfer-Lawrence, Wakefield Court rolls, Clifford of
Skipton papers, Middleton of Stockeld collection, Whixley cartulary, papers of
the antiquarian scholar Roger Dodsworth, Ella S. Armitage’s notebooks on
castles and Anglo-Saxon churches, and heraldic manuscripts by William
Dugdale.

New archive accessions are fully listed in the Society’s Annual
Report.
When you contact the archives the archivist will be able to advise you if the
YAS archives hold material relevant to your research, however, detailed
research cannot be undertaken on your behalf.
