Membership of the YAS

There are different categories of YAS membership for different types of people. Individual membership entitles you to attend meeting and excursions, use our library and archive collections at Claremont, and receive the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal, programme of events, newsletters and other mailings. Mailings can be received by email or post.

Associate membership is available for pensioners, young people and others not in paid employment. Associate members have the same rights as Individual members, but do not receive a copy of the Journal. We also have Family, Student, and Affiliated Group membership available.

For information on the special interest Sections, please see the 'Sections' page. These can be joined in addition to YAS or separately.

Borrowing
Our library collections are available to all members for reference. The following categories of members can also apply to borrow books from the library at Claremont Individual, Associate, Family, and Family Associate.

In order to comply with HMRC rules on Gift Aid borrowing rights are no longer included in membership subscriptions. Individual and Associate members may borrow up to 6 books at a time for a period of 3 months from the library at Claremont on payment of an annual fee of £1 to the librarian. Please do not send borrowing fees along with membership fees, but pay the Librarian on duty. You will be issued with a Library Borrowing Card.

The YAS has set up a reciprocal agreement with the University of Leeds which will allow YAS members to use the Brotherton Library collections for reference purposes. From 1 March 2013 Individual and Associate YAS members will be able to use the Brotherton Library for reference purposes by showing their YAS Library Borrowing card. Categories of YAS membership which include borrowing rights at Claremont (not the Brotherton) are: Individual, Associate, Family, and Family Associate.

The Brotherton Library, located in the Parkinson Building, contains the main collections for the arts, social sciences and law.
