Coal and its by-products: Joint event with National Coal Mining Museum for England, Sat 21 Sept 2013

Bookings are being taken for this dayschool, organised by the Industrial History Section of the YAS as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Yorkshire Archaeological & Historical Society, which explores different aspects of mining over 150 + years.

The morning will examine aspects of the coal industry together with a more in depth look at two of the main by-products of coal - the production of coke and the colour and dyeing industry. In the afternoon there will options for tours of the museum and its site, which will include an underground tour; the Hope Pit and Hope Store and the surface remains of the site. Numbers are limited on the underground tour to 19, if you wish to join this tour please indicate on the booking form.
