Kirsty’s new job

Some excellent news about Kirsty McHugh, formerly our Collections Manager at Claremont. She has been appointed Curator of the John Murray Archive and publishers’ collections at the National Library of Scotland, and is heading up to Edinburgh to start work there in early October. John Murray published the Brontes, Byron, Thackeray, and just about anyone who was anyone in the pantheon of 19th-c British authors. Looking after Murray’s letters sounds like a dream job, and we send her our warmest congratulations.

Kirsty is two years into a PhD in the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, University of Wales at Aberystwyth, which she intends to complete part-time.

She stayed on in Ilkley and came back to YAHS last year as a volunteer. We are going to miss her hugely, especially as she has taken a lead on the Yorkshire Dales 2018 project currently being planned. The scheme has been made all the richer thanks to Kirsty’s ideas and insights. We wish her great success.
