Towton battlefield walk – and tour of Malton

Two more society excursions to announce: the Towton battlefield walk on Tuesday 12 September 2017 is a three-hour circular walk taking in the ten information boards on the Battlefield Trail, which tell the full story in graphic detail of this 1461 Wars of the Roses encounter, probably the largest and bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil.

Meet at 12.00 noon for lunch at The Rockingham Arms, Towton, 2.5 miles south of Tadcaster on the A162 Tadcaster to Sherburn-in-Elmet road. Unfortunately this walk is not accessible by public transport. Wear suitable outdoor clothes and footwear for walking field paths, and bring a drink.

Bookings are now being taken for lunch, deadline 4 September. Full menu available, from Light Bites at £4.25. Cars may be left in the pub car park for the duration of the walk after lunch. Please e-mail Jane Ellis with your name, the number of participants and contact telephone number. Telephone Jane on 07787-311913 for details. The lunch options will be sent to you by e-mail.

Also a date for your diary: Malton day, arrangements in progress for Thursday 10 August. Details to follow.
