Appeal for help - Cavendish letters

  • Posted On: 1 July 2018

Can anyone help with this? Prof. Jim Fitzmaurice of the School of English, University of Sheffield, is looking for any surviving correspondence involving servants of Margaret and William Cavendish of Welbeck Abbey (Worksop) from the 1660s. Prof. Fitzmaurice is interested in Mr Proctor, Mr Clayton, Mrs Perkins, and Mrs Evans, and particularly two waiting ladies to Margaret - Mistress Evans and Mistress Remington.  Margaret said that her waiting ladies read and wrote together, perhaps as a book discussion group and as women who commented on their own poetry, drama, etc.  Please reply to Prof. Fitzmaurice here.
