We've just heard news of the death of Peter Sawyer, Emeritus Professor of Medieval History, at the age of 90. Peter joined Leeds University School of History in 1964, and was promoted to a chair six years later. He retired from Leeds in 1982.
Peter was a well-known, highly regarded and widely influential scholar on Anglo-Saxon England and the Vikings. He was instrumental in founding the International Medieval Bibliography, which recently marked its 50th anniversary.
