The University of Leeds along with the editors of Northern History, the journal so closely associated with Gordon, have announced their plans to commemorate his life's work.
An obituary by Simon Green appears in the recent issue, volume 55/1 (2018). Also in his memory, the editors have established an essay prize and are holding a colloquium.
New Approaches to the North: A Colloquium in Memory of Gordon Forster will be held on 29 September 2018 at the University of Leeds. The papers will cover a variety of topics and historical periods from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. Further details in due course.
The annual Gordon Forster Essay Prize is open to postgraduates and early-career researchers. There is a prize of £200, and the winning essay will be considered for publication in the journal.
We're asked to encourage submissions to the essay prize and circulate information to our networks or students. The obituary, and further details of the colloquium and essay prize, can be found in the latest edition of Northern History.
YAHS is actively considering how best to mark Gordon's immense contribution to the society. We would be very pleased to hear your ideas.
